Toyota has unveiled an SUV-style iteration of the Century, which has been around for generations and is only found in Japan, intended to chauffeur eminent persons. This new version runs on a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 3.5-liter V6 engine.

The Toyota Century has historically been an elite, Japanese-only offering for those seeking to be driven; its original incarnation arriving in the late 1960s. Its latest iteration sports a hybrid V-8 engine and now, is being redesigned into yet another form: an SUV.

The new Century SUV brings the renowned design of this model to life. Toyota states that both the sedan and the new SUV style will be available for purchase. This big-bodied SUV may not have extra room for a fifth person, but no passengers are left wanting as it offers immense comfort in its two rear reclining seats. Entertainment systems and advanced driving modes will ensure that occupants enjoy a ride like no other.

This version of the model offers more ways for you to make it your own, with multiple exterior paint colours and upholstery choices, plus a GR-badged version featuring sliding doors and sporty wheels.

The Century SUV has a 3.5-liter V-6 plug-in hybrid system with all-wheel drive, though Toyota has yet to provide details on specs other than its size and hefty curb weight of over 5600 pounds. The Japanese automaker will only produce 30 of these vehicles each month and it'll cost about $170,000 for those lucky enough to get their hands on one. This is similar to the new Lexus TX550+ which pumps out 406 horsepower, gets an estimated 30 mpg and has an electric driving range of 33 miles in that three-row SUV.
