EV maker Polestar is collaborating with Xingji Meizu, a smartphone corporation owned by Geely, their parent firm.

Polestar will soon expand its signature beyond EV production, launching a smartphone this December. CEO Thomas Ingenlath revealed the news during his attendance to the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, Germany, indicating that the phone will be manufactured by Xingji Meizu, a subsidiary of Polestar’s parent company Geely.

This won't be an effort to compete with China’s leading smartphone creators like Apple and Oppo. Rather, Ingenlath conveyed to the network, this can be a way to draw attention to all of the technology-driven abilities Polestar’s cars have - essentially turning them into computers on wheels.

Ingenlath expressed optimism for the potential to bridge the gap between two worlds without limits. "This provides us with an incredible opportunity." However, when reached for comment about the product's launch and its target markets, the company spokesperson did not provide an immediate response.

This marks an attempt by Geely to launch its smartphone subsidiary, Xingji Meizu, up a market tier. Polestar, which focuses on premium Electric Vehicles, provides a chance for the midtier manufacturer to target a wealthier clientele.

Polestar's electric cars come with native Android from Google, but Xingji Meizu has its own OS called Flyme. CNBC reported that Polestar is aiming to make cars utilizing Xingji Meizu's software. This may help facilitate the synergy between your vehicle and phone.
